VanDown 999

Terms

What VanDown is

VanDown is an information service. It gives general guidance about van breakdowns and points you at local businesses that may be able to help. It is not a breakdown policy, it is not insurance, and it does not itself attend breakdowns.

Safety guidance

The get-safe guidance follows the Highway Code rules on breakdowns and obstructions and National Highways guidance, and is written to be useful in a hurry. It is general advice and cannot account for your specific situation. You are the only person who can see where you are standing. If anyone is in danger, ring 999.

The diagnosis tool

The symptom checker produces an informed guess from a written description. It is not an inspection, it is not a professional diagnosis, and it can be wrong. It is deliberately built to err towards telling you not to drive, and you should treat a cautious answer as the floor rather than the ceiling.

Never rely on it to decide that a vehicle is safe to drive. That decision needs someone competent looking at the vehicle. If the tool and your own instinct disagree, go with caution.

Listings

Listed businesses are independent and nothing to do with us. We check what we describe on our verification page, which is a real process but not a guarantee of workmanship, availability or price. Any contract you enter into is between you and that business.

Prices quoted anywhere on this site are typical UK ranges for context, so you can tell a fair quote from a bad one. They are not quotations and nobody is bound by them.

Submitted content

If you send us a story, you confirm it is your own account and true as far as you know, and you give us permission to publish it on VanDown. We may edit it for length or clarity, and we may decline to publish it. We will not publish accusations about a named business, because we cannot verify both sides. You can ask us to remove yours at any time.

Liability

We provide this site in good faith and take real care over its accuracy, particularly the safety content. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on the information here, or from dealings with any business listed. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Coverage

VanDown covers Mainland Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It does not cover the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe.

Changes

We will update these terms as the site grows, particularly as new categories move from guidance to verified listings. The date at the top shows the current version.
